Hello, we've got 4 genuinely unusual but super cool options this weekend!
Exeter Respect Festival takes over Belmont Park across both days, a Deaf Rave at the Barnfield, open-air Arthurian theatre at Killerton, and a book market with free kids activities down on the Quay on Sunday.
This Weekend's Pick
Exeter Respect Festival
Exeter's annual celebration of diversity is back at Belmont Park, and it's a brilliant free day out for families. Three stages of music and dance, storytelling, food stalls from all over, and plenty of children's activities: craft workshops, face painting, puppet shows and games.
RAMM are bringing a free family stall too, where kids can make a butterfly feeder and handle a beaver pelt or a barn owl from the museum collection. It's alcohol-free, easy to dip in and out of, and runs both days. Under-16s go free, with a £2 entry for over-16s on the door.
| When | Saturday 6 June, 12pm to 7pm. Sunday 7 June, 11am to 6pm. |
| Where | Belmont Park, Exeter, EX4 6SS |
| Cost | Free for under-16s. £2 per adult per day, paid on arrival. |
More Good Stuff
Family Deaf Rave
This is the one to tell people about. Deaf Rave is an award-winning, Deaf-led collective, and they're bringing a family party to the Barnfield.
It's a Deaf-taught DJ workshop using vibration backpacks so everyone can physically feel the music, followed by a joyful dance. It's part of the Deaf Academy's 200th anniversary, and there's a free taster workshop beforehand for ticket-holders. Genuinely unlike anything else on this weekend, and a brilliant, inclusive thing to be part of.
| When | Saturday 6 June, 2pm (taster from 1pm). Runs about 2 hours. |
| Where | Barnfield Theatre, Exeter, EX1 1SN |
| Cost | £20 adult, £12 child (under 16). Book ahead. |

Worth the Drive
The Three Inch Fools: King Arthur and the Holy Fail
If you fancy an evening out, the Three Inch Fools bring their fast, funny, music-filled open-air theatre to the Killerton parkland on Saturday night. It's an Arthurian romp, all daring quests and medieval mayhem, and their stuff is reliably good fun.
Bring a blanket or a chair and a picnic, and settle in. Fair warning: it's a 7pm start and runs till 9, so probably better for older kids. About 20 minutes from Exeter, with a buggy shuttle from the car park.
| When | Saturday 6 June, 7pm to 9pm |
| Where | Killerton, Broadclyst, EX5 3LE (about 20 minutes from Exeter) |
| Cost | £19 adult, £13 child. Booking essential. |
One free thing
The Book Market
The Exeter City of Literature Book Market takes over the Quay on Sunday, and it's a lovely free wander. Eleven independent Devon bookshops set up at Piazza Terracina, with free literary bits and bobs at the Custom House and author talks in the Transit Shed.
There's a try-a-typewriter taster for kids, family activities, and plenty of food and drink around the Quay if you make a morning of it. Easy to combine with a riverside stroll while you're down there.
| When | Sunday 7 June, 11am to 4pm |
| Where | Exeter Quay |
| Cost | Free |
That's the lot. If you end up at any of these, a quick reply with a photo is always welcome, it comes straight to the inbox. Have a good weekend, and hope the weather plays along.
Details change. Check each venue's website before setting off, especially for timed entry or one-off events.
